HELLO ATHLETES BASKETBALL PLAYERS that are never satisfied with their performance and looking to improve; whether you are a star player on your team or second string.

You know, 50% of sports fitness & performance comes from nutrition. It is crucial that you are eating well and feeding your body with all the nutrients it needs. 

You can exercise all you want but if you don’t eat right it’s a waste of time. Likewise, you can eat right but if you do not exercise or do the right exercises you won’t obtain great results. The combination is two: Nutrition Plan + Exercise = Results; they go hand in hand. Most importantly, you need a support group that will motivate you.

To Improve your performance and ELEVATE YOUR GAME!  you need to insure that you have the following:

1. Grocery List
2. Healthy Nutrition Guide
3. Portion Control (counting colors NOT calories)
4. Exercises to Improve Basketball Fitness Performance
5. Drinking More Water for Health

It’s all about improving your performance and earning results with the right exercises and an effective nutrition plan. The nutrition is not a diet, it’s just a lifestyle that will help you improve not only your performance but overall health.

Grocery List

So, many of you may have already done your grocery shopping this weekend, here’s my guide to a healthier list.

Using “Michi’s Ladder”  will help you fill your grocery cart with the BEST whole foods. Choose from the top two rungs/tiers FIRST. With this you will find a lot more options; UTILIZE it!

You will find in my grocery list that I added some more carbs such as pies and ice cream. Now you don’t go ahead and buy both or all. You should mix it up from time to time. Plus, I added it so you can understand that you can eat this type of food as long as you control your intake.

As you are athletes and are always looking to improve your performance you can afford to eat such food as you will burn it. If you stick to the exercises you will increase your metabolism.

My weekly list usually consists of these food types.

TIPS: You may have already heard these, but if not then here they are:

1) DO NOT grocery shop on an empty stomach! As silly as that sounds, this will trigger impulse buying on snacks and things your body craves!! Usually the packaged “bad stuff”!

2) Shop around the perimeter of the store – all the fresh produce etc is always there. The packaged products are all in the aisles. I’m not saying to avoid those areas, but try not to get sucked into browsing down aisles where temptations are always lurking.

3) USE THE LIST AS A GUIDE!!

Portion Control counting colors not Calories

The secret formula is…

PORTIONS! That’s the secret to any successful weight loss or improving your performance, staying fit, and being healthy.

Basically, we all should know our portion size depending on our fitness goals and calorie intake. Many people count calories; they look at the nutrition facts and count. That’s great! This helps to give you a guideline as to what you are looking for; which is ingredients obviously; based on per serving of sugars and carbs and so forth. Having said all that, I have a much easier way to control your portion sizes!

Our success comes from COUNTING COLORS. HUH??? How does that work?? Well, we have these fancy color coded containers that my team members and other fitness freaks use. With the help of the containers, there is no need for any fancy calculations or any guess work. We use this to control our weight (to gain or lose weight). The diagram below shows you what the containers look like and what each color represents.

Exercises to Improve Basketball Fitness Performance

As athletes you will need to be concentrating on:

Interval training

  • Adaptation response
  • Cross-training benefits
  • Calorie burning
  • Building aerobic and anaerobic capacity

Benefits of Anaerobic Interval Training

  • Efficiency
  • A healthier heart
  • Losing weight, not muscle
  • Increased metabolism
  • Burning more fat during and after exercise

Some exercises that include plyometrics, speed, agility, coordination will highlight the benefits to improve your performance.

Because the workouts are athletic, high intensity, physically demanding workouts, the key to preventing injury is proper form and technique, appropriate instruction, balance, and common sense. I do not recommend people that are injured to do such exercises. If you choose to do so, make sure you consult your physician and have medical clearance.
